So I thought I would write a post about an older manga, The Prince of Tennis, which I actually just finished a while ago.
The Prince of Tennis follows the journey of the Seishun Academy tennis team as they play their way to the national tennis tournament, in the hopes of winning. The series centers on Ryoma Echizen, the first and only 1st year student to make it onto the varsity team. He is very cocky and confident, and does not mind being a show off. After all, his catch phrase is "Mada Mada Dane," meaning "You still have a long ways to go." His team mates all have differing special skills that are shown as the manga continues. There are many interesting guys on the Seishun tennis team, but there are also strong players on their opponent teams.
So a lot of the tennis stuff becomes, well, impossible, but hey, it's fictional. A lot of the time I also cannot believe that the characters are supposed to be in middle school. Oh well, it's still entertaining.
This manga was written by Takeshi Konomi, and published in Weekly Shonen Jump. It started in 1999 and ran until 2008. There is also a sequel series.
